What is 5G?

By now you have probably heard of 5G. The spiritual successor to 4G. You may have also heard that its suppose to give unimaginable fast speeds. What does 5G actually offer. Not as much as you would expect from all the hype online.

There is only a short list of locations where 5G shines. So if you are ready to convert to the 5G dream you may want to think again. Though if you are looking to opt into 5G there are some stuff to know before making the switch. 5G will boost you up compared to 4G but that advancement is far off. Though thinking of the future if youre buying a new phone is a good idea.

There are many different types of 5G. Though there are really only two main types of 5G. The first one is called mmWave and the second is sub-6GHz. mmWave is said to be 50x than 4G. Though there is a lot of limitations to mmWave making it pointless to use. Sub-6GHz is basically the same as mmWave but with more coverage. The strength of these 5G network can vary from location to location. Even in the same city you can get different strengths of 5G.

5G has the ability for companies to develop apps that are more intricate than ones we have today. For example sports networks can develop live apps so viewers can switch between multiple camera angles to view the game. 5G can also help develop virtual reality headsets even further. Another thing 5G can help with is low latency on apps and games.

Though right now 5G is a flop and cant provide you with what you want. It is a new technology that has little development put into it. So I would wait a year or two before even considering switching over. It will prove to be powerful when companies actual develop it to its full intentional but right now its just weak.
